the curl of her slinder fingers
as they wrap around
and back behind.
growing,
in the warmth you vastly provide.
straining lavender and honeyed,
fluent flora’s pedigree,
subtle urges for her not to hide,
bestowed.
yet, wearing forlorn, it would seem

nature’s simple tone
words weaving throughout my soul
he already knows

if it were permitted: a luxury of my own doing
I would escort you
into my womb
allow you to discern upon
where you so expertly travel
point to where you linger
taking ownership
of my most sacred bounds

I wake to a busy morning in quiet Nebraska. The corn fields continue the process of self-starting and sustaining, as it finishes out the perfect sweet corn phase of its season.
The light cloud coverage is beginning to burn away, as the sun raises higher in the azure sky. Today, here in my part of Nebraska, I will experience the eclipse in totality. Around our lunch/dinner hour we will gather as a community, who has welcomed many new faces and a team of scientists, to watch what only happens, if we’re lucky, once in a lifetime.
I have mixed feelings about the importance of viewing an eclipse, if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t travel and spend hundreds of dollars to view this moment in history. However, I’m grateful there are people in our country who do find true importance in recording, gathering and studying for the future of our world. I’m humbled, quite honestly, in how God has created us equal, yet blessed us with different gifts and its rather exciting to witness this fact, in and of itself, today.
Yes, for me, watching someone DO what they enjoy, and find their passion within, is fulfilling and a fine day’s work as I watch their minds turn and ideas flow – but that’s what social scientists do best.
We all have gifts and talents. My hope for today is for everyone to stop and consider what makes us positively different and the same and celebrate those bits. For we are much more productive united than we could ever be divided. I may have plucked that thought from someone…
Happy Eclipse Day, all Y’all,
Audrey Dawn

fluttered calming noise
nature speaking, I’m listening
as evening breathes near
together, light and void
join in harmony
as twilight appears

today I walked into the post office.
just inside the door that never locks,
and the silver trim protectively surrounding her,
i saw it.
up against the corner swept weekly,
probably daily in the winter,
almost already behind me,
was a lone white plastic sack.
the contents inside
dwindled down to one cucumber
someone’s summer bounty,
now one of yours,
left, possibly given, presumably abandoned.
I flicked the envelopes into the slot,
turned two keys looking for more requirements,
thankful there wasn’t a spinning combination lock anymore.
somebody take her home, I thought, as I pushed the door open to leave,
and listened as it shut.

there’s a picture inside her,
her mind, really
an arm gathering her close
a chuckle and nod,
seen outside the corner
of her hazel eye.
mature trees outline
what is before them
sounds of babbling water
fill her head,
smells of lilac
purple, not white
adorn her radiant skin
as the sun’s final kiss
winks just then.
barefoot beauty,
bit of dust upon her toes
boots next to hers
days work shows,
smells of the day
draw her in…
focus takes over
and she’s back
in her office again

just let her
in shades of pink
born of maturity
a gift, rooted deep
simple offerings
puddles of water her drink
sun kissed
displayed, considered a weed
country worn
she, rarely what you think

Grass blades reach towards me
Rain covers my skin
Summer allows for nature’s plea
And finally I’m with him again

sitting in the valley
of what might be
for the first time,
suffocating

Shy, her shield,
Sparkling eyes never quite reaching
Those who find her,
Bashful, worn with grace,
Her words now yours
May be timidly drawn,
For those who deserve,
But written upon the skin
With wanton fingertips
For those who capture
Her touch, heart, her mind
And recognize the tingle
She causes
And willingly provides
Make sure she allows eye contact, it will show trust.
She’ll want to touch you, she ought to lightly brush your chest.
Her hand should want to stop, lingering as she feels your heartbeat.
Maybe her fingers will tap in rhythm.
If it’s her eyes you see, make sure she sees yours completely.
When she leans in to kiss you goodnight, think. This moment. Is she who you’ve waited to see?
detailed
his thoughts,
pure
the hum she chose,
in virgin white shining
as he approached.
assessing
the angle,
in which she’s presented,
required leaning in close
as she murmured,
come on, let’s go
