Southern Winter (Haibun)

image

Do you ever have moments where you find yourself wishing, if even for a few brief seconds, you would’ve shared a sunrise like this with someone special?

Me, too.

When an unexplainable dawn leaves me breathless, this is when I need you the most. You could use your words to help me see her beauty, possibly the greatness that could come from today.

Instead, I’ll leave you with this:

A breathless dawning
Winter doesn’t look the same
Take me to the snow

Gorgeous Masquerade

image

She’s beautiful, isn’t she,
Rare, flawed, vintage pink,
And willing.
Intricate dressings, securely draped,
Essence beckons,
A gorgeous masquerade.
More than anything,
Your persuasion,
Motivates her, always.
Peeling back her layers,
Truth is conceived,
She’s no beauty, she’s a dream.

Mindful Clutter

image

humbly,
how do I handle,
every thought found,
deep inside?
born,
without a voice,
kept hidden,
under my control.
bundled,
tightly upon,
my breasts,
ache, alive and well.
slowly,
pushing my mind,
irrationally so,
towards giving up.
aware,
i’m only one,
emotional woman,
who’s unworthy.
mindful,
i’m gravitating,
towards views,
full of clutter.
asking,
to sit beside,
material rubble,
for peace.

Proof

image

I counted
You placed me in danger
Thirteen separate times
In two hours
Don’t tell me that you love me
When I know that’s a lie

***
I remember promising you guys that I would post a picture of the doodlings I sketch out, while waiting for words to arrive on paper. An epiphany occurred after I’d drawn this picture, then a poem created from a memory.

The picture is meaningless, well not the thirteen heavily drawn red tallies, it seems, which have permanently indented the next few pages of my tablet, but overall it’s just doodles.

What I’ve realized is that actions DO speak louder than words. Yes, this message has been heard a million times before, I know. Now, the missive is understood. Finally. Lack of protection will never translate into love. Not for me, anyway.

Undeserving

image

Your effort to espy,
Offered in devotion.
As if creating her,
To be yours,
You choose each breath,
Affectionately.
Describing her worth,
Expressing the beauty,
She fails to presume,
However, you prove,
Consistently,
With inevitable care.
She’ll feel you,
Prepare in coy,
Wearing soft lilac,
Freely.
Her hint of blush,
Amplified for you, always.

Happy Thanksgiving

image

Wishing I was with you,
No matter where you are,
I thought I heard you whisper,
Meet me among the stars.
Paper, rock, scissors,
Our little boy insists,
Hugs and kisses,
On his nightly visit.
He waits patiently,
On the tip of the moon,
His favorite moment,
You be me,
And I’ll be you.

***Written with love for my siblings. Big Brother, Middle, and Baby will all arrive late tonight at Dad’s house. The Old Cowboy will be thrilled. I know the coffee will be on and the anxious chatter will begin. It’ll be way past midnight, it usually is, when this poem arrives.

***Now a quick ditty…

‘Tis a late Thanksgiving Eve,
And found crowded around the table,
Is a family who loves to giggle,
With someone who’s trying to sleep.
As usual, it’s our Middle,
Big Brother’s asked to please wake her,
Hurry now, before she’s seen,
Or, as usual, Baby’s gonna scream.
“Someone pay attention to me!”
“Don’t you love me anymore?”
“Get Middle off the floor!”
Big Brother will scratch his head,
And roll his eyes with a grin,
Mumbling, “Not this again…”
Time for some of my Dad’s whiskey.
Our Old Cowboy lifting her to her feet,
Left responding rather gruffly,
“Middle, you haven’t even kissed me!”
All four will be left to ponder,
Why his Oldest Daughter’s missing,
“Who does she think she is by moving.”
What could their redheaded sister,
Have possibly planned,
More important than her clan?
I know, they know, for Thanksgiving,
There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,
But, this year I have to write for them,
From here in Houston, sun shining.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! I love you guys!!

~Little do they know…I’m off in the morning to experience Houston’s live Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Cherish

image

With eyes locked
And my heart open wide
I promise to you
All that I am, will ever be
Admitting honestly
Whatever this is
I cherish our road, completely

***Let me apologize for the cheese factor in this poem for those who may be skeptical of finding love. I know it sounds like a five and dime wedding vow to some, but it just came pouring out of me 5 minutes ago. After reflecting over the words, my heart knows best, so I will share the poem in hopes that it brings a smile. For me, the only path worth walking is towards love in any form, but most importantly the one you’re craving, always.

Tell Me About Love

image

Stepping away from the fight,
Only one need, for tonight,
Tell me about love.
Remind me that it lives,
And thrives among,
Moments we’re intolerant of.

Honestly, I’m needing to hear,
Sounds that bring back familiar,
Like the moaning of a guitar,
As long fingers slide through.
Explaining where I’ve left my heart,
And why it should belong to you.

Allow my strength to weaken,
I’ll listen for that voice I know,
One encouraging me to escape,
Whispering me towards a window.
Write of a passionate world where,
Someone chooses to wear a cape.

Paint pictures of your love among,
Flowers, hearts and shadows,
Even a dragon with a red tongue.
Warm me with your skillful hands,
Explore, as only an artist does,
My freckled skin, your nightly canvas.

Freely Submitting

Educated on his surroundings,
Masculinity unfolds daily,
Nothing comprehensible,
Not even in dreams.
Why find comfort in her?
Yet, she welcomes him, completely.

image

Grasping at the simplicity,
Of a dreamer’s thoughts.
Lacking expectations,
Freely giving of his heart.
Needing more than anything,
To feel the curve of her body.

image

She welcomes his presence,
Intensity of his desire,
To stay with her, if only for a while.
A sanctuary of his making,
Her devoted heart beating,
To the enormity of his craving.

image

Pain found upon his face,
She wrapped in his embrace,
A calming force surrounds.
Neither leave or waver,
Unaware of time or space,
For him she waits.

image

Knowing moments together pass,
Worldly duties, a requirement of fate,
Submitting, aware she’s all he has.
Fleeting bits of peace eagerly evade,
Tears washing sorrowful passions,
As returning again, always questioned.
