Hearts break
Created for more
Than keeping us alive
The powerful organ
Innocently sitting
Beating
Yet, actually
Guarding
Anticipating
Each arrival
Life’s disappointments
Possible dream shattering
Inevitable realizations
Of real human behavior
Infidelity
Dishonesty
Silence
Alive
Breathing
Sending the final punch
Had the heart been waiting
Sensing struggles all along
Disaster coming
Forcing
Protection
Sending out low voices
Always
A mind choosing to ignore
Does the heart forsee
The size of the breaking
Afterwards
Is it even a possibility
It will heal
Provide the ultimate
Forgiveness
Questioning
Why it should
Stay a prisoner
For good
This is good, a fascinating ponder about the heart as a physical organ with sensibilities–has me thinking about it “guarding and anticipating” so much damage…

The heart is so delicate and so temperamental, don’t you think. It breaks mine when I see the hurt and sadness in little children learning really tough life lessons. The suffering and pain of divorce. The meanness of other kids and bullying. The coming to understand that this world is not all innocence and sunshine.
But then there’s also the beauties of wonder, love and happiness…

The heart is definitely more than we think–in a way. This was a good writing, Audith.
