waiting for a songbird
greeting,
catching sun’s first rays.
to perch,
amongst winter’s white,
blanketing the gray.
emerald brilliant
reflecting her eyes,
beauty amongst overlay
almost feels right.

I notice the birds are starting their first mating rituals. Heralds of Spring. π

Me too. I love birds. So much easier to love than people somehow. Still I love a challenge too. π

Animals generally are easier to love and show their love easily.
I can’t handle a challenge. There was once a time. I feel like I fought too hard for too long. Now, I just want what’s meant to be.

Songbirds in the winter sound different. As if they are playing more of a solo-separate from the orchestra of summer.

You know what? This morning I was sitting at my bar, as the house was quiet on that end, and I could hear a songbird outside my patio door. It was exactly that..a solo. Felt like it was only for me. I adored the moment.
Thank you for reading me…

So pretty, Poetess! You had me at “emerald,” you know!!

Is it fair to say I’m saddened by the idea of not getting to use Emerald in my next poem. I’ve forgotten how exquisite a word it really is. Thank you so much, Debbie.

This is beautiful, Audrey.
It’s getting to the point in the year when I am “catching sunβs first rays” on my way to work. I hope to soon be hanging out by the river as the sun is rising.

Dan, I appreciate you saying so. You know, by the river and the sun rising sounds just about perfect. I’m certain you’ll catch the best of sunsets. #envious

The only thing I like about Daylight Saving Time is that I get to experience those sunrises twice each spring.

I miss my opportunities to catch sunrises. I need to get going earlier. I used to be so good at that, but now I’ve figured out how to completely exhaust myself the day before… Helps to have a second driver in the family now, too. π

Ack – I meant to say that I adore the title – Emerald Rouse – it’s a glimpse into the heart of the poem, like the edge of the leaves peeking through the snow. Funny thing is, I first read the title too fast and thought it was Emerald Rose. When re-reading, I was taken by its subtle perfection.

I’m not certain I placed my thoughts and punctuation right in this poem, Shari. My mindset wavered a bit. Glad you found an angle that worked for you. Your support means so much. Thank you for taking the time. β‘ Tis a glimpse.

Lovely Audrey. I’m fond of Emerald (and the color) as it is my birthstone.

I’ve loved the color since I was a wee one, Butch. I chose an emerald stone in my class ring even though it wasn’t my birthstone. I find emerald to be a very attractive word. I’d like to use it again soon. Sorta obsessed with it now. Happy you liked it. π

So Beautiful π Sorry I haven’t been round much. A lot has been happening in ‘real life’ and I’ve not been rounding as I should…but I should because I miss your beautifully cryptic poetry π

Thank you, my dear friend. You know, I miss my cryptic poetey, too. And as of late it seems to be coming back, which I’m happy about if I’m being honest. Some might argue I’m hiding, but if they know me at all they know this is when I’m most available to dancing on a mountaintop. A calmer heart feels good.
I’m sorry life’s been at you as of late. I’m hoping your new and beautifully inspiring relationship is going well. I’ve been reading you…sure hope you’re feeling better. π
