What if I told you I was happy,
content, so it would seem,
would you walk away knowing
I would be okay?
Or
Maybe request we sit,
listen to the locusts,
bellow of a calf,
distant momma, responding.
Consider
What life could be
if taking the risk
had an outcome seen as good.
I’d point out the blue heron
we saw on the way home from church,
back this evening nodding well done.
You’d allow the beaver to continue
bringing in wood,
appreciating a hard day’s work.
All the while, both recognizing the deer
to the East, as a sign to try as it looks us in the eyes.
Story’s begin and end in such ways,
neither better than the other.
Peaceful
Heat of our bodies overtaking the sun,
the moon stretching its glow
light breathing focused on,
could we smile knowing
whatever this is – feels right –
and maybe life has just begun.
And the light whisper in the back of the mind says, I remember. I remember.
Beautiful, Audrey Dawn.
