Brothers

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Let me say, I’m fully aware I’ve done nothing to deserve the protection of these men and women. I hope not to insult with my words but to honor, possibly, and admit my shortcomings in being thankful for their service. Peace be to those who served. )

Ashamed of the details I’d forgotten,

Unnerved by the facts we aren’t taught,

Humbled by the dedication proven,

And the lives lost.

Passionate in prayer quietly watching,

Questioned how civilians give back,

Intrigued by the devotion to State,

Terrified for, and in awe of the forces they’ve reckoned with,

And grateful for every step these men take.

Precision

The way you approach
In full confidence
Steady control
Centers me

An ability to sense
Where I’m at emotionally
By simply patrolling
Around me

Knowing you’re near
A presence about you
I cling to automatically
With nothing to fear

As if exploration of my mind
Is what you desire
What sets me apart
And yours to admire

The mastery used
Absolutely nothing to prove
Leaves me yearning
Spinning, as I watch

Fantastic ability surrounds
Every thought, every sound
My body reacts
Easily

Your offer, often powerful
Soothes my soul
Leaves me adored
Until next time

Duty,
Without your bravery,
I couldn’t be who I am,
Which is protected.

Pride,
Without your devotion,
I wouldn’t feel what I do,
Which is secure.

Freedom,
Without your desire,
I couldn’t sense your love,
Which surround my decisions.

Honor,
Without your service,
I wouldn’t understand sacrifice,
Which in humble graditude, I bow.

You,
Without your commitment,
I couldn’t be me,
Which I will love you for, always.
