Noise

this morning’s noises echo
facts of summertime dwindling.
a crow’s call to advance
spur last night’s crickets,
still rubbing within the window well.
my heart swells with hope
which confuses me,
and the neighbor lady sweeps her deck.

  1. I liked the mention of the window well and crickets. It has been more than forty years since I had a window well but I do remember those little stinkers falling in there and still chirping. A lovely seasonal poem, Audrey.

  2. Fall is definitely in the air, ma’am! I love this time of year, after the heat and humidity break. And even though we all know COVID is going to change things for a while, I’m still hoping for magical holidays, ha!
