Carefree

Tuttle Creek, spring semester
Convinced and finally alone,
The promise of happily ever after
With the help of a seductive cove.

Clothes drapped over fringe
Growth no higher than our knees
As summer promised a convenient hinge
And tree buds blossomed into leaves.

Warm air cradled doubt
While we dipped and slid with haste
A runner’s legs supported me
Mine, wrapped around his waist.

Water clutching nature
Connecting, skin to skin
Laughter echoed pleasure
I want to feel that way again.

  1. Mmmmm, yes to feel that way again. There is nothing quite like that yearning to recapture a bit of a dream of the past. ๐Ÿ™‚ You weave a feeling of love, longing and happiness so well with this poem Aud, and you also mention two of my favorites: “The promise of happily ever after, With the help of a seductive cove.” Always good to have an oasis to return to when needed.

    • Yes, doing well, although a very strange feeling in wishing that summer would hang around another month or two, which for me is a bit strange. I am definitely an autumn type of guy, but there is something happy/nostalgic about this past summer (visiting family/hometown I think), that makes me wish it would linger on a bit longer. This poem is a perfect summer poem for me too, and maybe this is the reason I wish summer to hang around a bit longer ๐Ÿ™‚

Wishing you a perfect weekend Audrey!

    • I adore the seasons of cooler temps, whether they bring the freshness of what may be or allow us to snuggle in to what we want to hold on to…Spring and Autumn will always get my vote. You sound so happy, Randy. I’m glad your visit home has gone well.
May your weekend bring you moments worthy of keeping in your pocket. โ™ก

    • Yes, the cooler autumn temps kind of snap us back to reality. As for my happiness, ha, ha… reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of Jonh Milton: The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.
