I just happened to come across a poem I haven’t thought of for ages. Then I thought, “Hmm. Self-inflicted …” Here’s a link:

Those moments when reading becomes something we do when our mind refuses everything else. I love finding solace with your words. Thank you, Ben

THE WOUND WE WIND
Round and round we wind
The wound we wound around us
Tight in our own grasp
History is history
The present we give ourselves

We should keep that present on the mantel. It would behoove me to do so, I think. β‘

I can relate to this, though maybe in a different context altogether.

Maybe you’ll tell your version one day. Thank you for reading my poetry, Clay.

You already know me, Audrey. You’ve read my work, and know my struggles. I don’t write using my real name anymore that’s all.

Well, your writing has changed. You are harder to find within the words…

Well, that’s because I was this young and naive boy and used to write these direct expressions of emotion once. I guess life killed that boy. I might just ditch the pseudonym soon.

Okay here’s a story that might cheer you up. We collaborated once. I think you were drunk! You told me so at least! That makes me smile now.

I figured it was you. I figured if Clay was anyone it was you. Smiles. I was tipsy and it was a fun collaboration.

Anyone get hurt in that accident?
And I mistakenly thought you had a most interesting day yesterday… Hmmm
Maybe you should post…………… Why?
If your self-inflicted punishment requires repairs…
I have super glue and duct tape…
Warm hugs “Red”

Nope, no one was hurt. Promise. My day yesterday was good. I got to work from home. Please don’t worry, Michael.
Super glue and duct tape sounds pretty permanent…thanks for the smile.
Thanks for calling me, Red. β‘

We all know how to do the self-shame thing. The trick is to let the chastisement evaporate as quickly as possible!

Thank you for this one…
An internal monolog that I should put on repeat.
When you make a mistake
Say, “you shouldn’t be there.”
Then, “but it’s what I WANT!”
Never gets anywhere.

No escape from where we are; changing our attitude to it (and to ourselves) may be the way to find a transformation.

You could have it tattooed on the back of your hand. Now *that* kind of self-inflicted injury seems more OK. π

Ben, my poetic friend, you are a mind reader. Here’s the thing…learning to be where I am is getting tiresome.
Some great Tanka there!

No, you do not deserve punishment of any kind. Maybe a moment of self-reflection or time away from all the stressors or a few hours of doing something wonderful for yourself. You’re a teacher – you know to couch everything in a positive light. Take the kids out for ice cream. I’m sending a little love your way, Audrey.
Is this a sheet of ice cracked by a pebble? Interesting photo, at least.

Some reflection always works, you’re correct. I should do more for myself. I’m headed out of town, so it’s coming soon. Thanks for the love, Shari.
Yes, that’s what it is. Good job, Ma’am π

Maybe you should skip over the punishment and have a talk with yourself. I doubt you really did anything deserving punishment so maybe time out will serve.
Remind yourself not to slam the door then go have a treat while you are off sulking.

You’re probably correct, C. I’m not a door slammer. I’m a go quiet type. But I do enjoy being a sulking brat, so yay me.
