Insight and intrigue. Depth and character. As always your words touch a deep point in the soul where only words can reach along with the touch of someone’s soulful hands.
You are so right. Those we love, fall for, become friends with, learn from…list goes on and on. Genius is the one who doesn’t let them get away.
Thank you, Shari
We often imbue others with qualities we’d like to see in them, don’t we? Sometimes it works, in that they rise to expectations; other times, sadly, they just disappoint us, Beautifully written!
We do, and I have always found it to be a compliment, but others do find it tough to measure. One has to work on being realistic, I suppose. I’ve always expected a lot from those I love, but it seems to obtainable to me, as their brilliance oozes. Again…my view. Sigh. Thanks so much, Debbie
I tend to expect a lot out of others, too. And the ones who refuse to even *try* to rise to the occasion are the very ones I run away from, knowing they’ll only disappoint me and I’ll end up hurt. Aren’t people complicated?!?
So very, but I’m capable of not meeting expectations, as well. Sooooo much energy goes into it and I guess it comes down to what feels right and what is forced.
Because my stories always include brilliant people, I’ve taken to watching the slew of new ‘genius’ shows on TV (like Genius). This poem fits perfectly.

We imbue those we love with our aspirations – genius is the one who lives up to them.
Lovely poem, Audrey.
