This morning’s view didn’t whisper love,
There weren’t romantic signals, in colorful hues,
Left there to guide me,
While pushing through routine.
It was my mind’s song from yesterdays past,
Yes, one by Otis Redding.
Honestly, the song surprised me,
Reminded my broken heart of you,
Yet, encouraged my beliefs regarding true love,
And left me yearning in quiet blue.
Otis will do that to you π

When we don’t see what we wish at a particular moment or don’ feel
what we feel we should then we often return to earlier moments in our

Audrey, and rings so true to me.

Wonderful poem. I adore the music of Otis Redding, your mention of him in this poem is very special. Go get the Prof!

Thanks, Holly. I believe mentioning Otis was important, at the very least, but what do I know. Duke is an elusive beast, you know.

Otis! I know the name…
Well, it’s good, I’d say–overall. Love ruins the soul, you know.

You know the name Otis or the name of the song?…
Yeah, well, thank you, I guess. Love does not ruin the soul! I’m going to beat you up, I think. Come here!

Otis! The name. Is he one of the Temptations? Probably not.
*runs a bit* I think it does, dadblameit!

No, he isn’t part of the Temptations, Duke.

Oh. Guess what? On my way in to work this morning they had a contest perfect for you. The caller had to identify a Yes song played backwards in order to win Yes concert tickets. I knew the song but couldn’t remember the name…I needed you! It was Roundabout! Man! I would have taken you to the concert as my date if I’d won, even if the band is just okay…

WHAT?! Okay?!!!! They’re the best classic rock band ever! I love Roundabout. Steve Howe forever! Okay, got that out of the way. Would’ve loved to go to the concert with you!

See, I knew you’d love reading this today. The best?! Umm…Duke? Not the best, but they’re good enough. Haha. Steve Howe is good at what he does. For sure. Yeah, me too. Might have made me like them more if we were together for the concert.

*mouth drops* Maybe Jethro Tull could battle them…but other than that…the textures Steve creates…he’s unlike any other rock guitarist! Oh sure! We’d love Yours is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper.

*closes his mouth* You’d know better than I, Duke. Jethro Tull? For cryin’ out loud. Why don’t you just add in Rush while you’re at it. We would, huh? I’ll see about that… *pulls up YouTube*

Rush is okay…they do make a lot of noise for a three piece band. Who do you think is tops?

Tops? For that era? I don’t know… Lep Zeppelin? You know, Eric Clapton is my favorite from those days.

Was the song “Try a Little Tenderness” the one you were thinking of?? Interesting, the connection between music and memories, huh? Very well done, Audrey, but it looks like a storm’s on the way. Better batten down the hatches!!

Nope. π That’s a good one, however, Debbie. Music always connects me to my memories. Always has and always will, probably so for many of us. Thank you, my friend. It’s been raining on and off for days now and shall continue, it seems. I don’t mind the rain. I could use a night walk in the rain now that I think on it.

Hi, Jay. Thank you..for the comment and for following me.
Your poetry is wonderful, as well. I’m sorry I’ve been a silent reader of sorts since following you a few days ago. I’ll be better at giving you some feedback, I promise. I wanted a read a little more of your past work before doing so, but time hasn’t been on my side lately.
Enjoy your evening,
Audrey
