When dried leaves depart,
In submission to the changing wind,
And nothing now makes sense,
Remember we’re all given a plan.
While quiet enough to hear,
And present enough to understand,
We’ll realize sadness, too, is a gift.
Even when the hearts of Grackles,
Sit and wait for a chance to create,
Songs out of screeches and cackles,
Their tune we refuse to consummate.
Yet, we allow it to comfort us within,
Remember, same tree, same devotion,
When leaning into darkness, once again.
Gifts do often come from the most unexpected circumstances…
“…while quiet enough to hear, and present enough to understand…”
Absolutely beautiful, Audrey Dawn

A fine thesis and introspective poem Audrey. Sadness is indeed a gift – but enough is enough. After one major sadness, I lowered my expectations of others and have thus far avoided a repeat. This has pros and cons but is worth considering in certain circumstances. Nice work Audrey Dawn.

Thank you, Michael. Your decision to do so is what I have often counseled towards others. Expectations must shift.

“sadness is a gift”. Yes, and a tough one to accept. I get sad a lot. But then again, it’s in my nature. Hope you’re well Audrey.

Yes, by no means am I saying that it is easy, Staci. We both know how hard it can be to find the positive when in the midst of sadness. I just thought we could all use a little reminder. I’m well. I have a cold. Boo! Sitting under a blanket and reading today. Hope your day went well.

Lot’s of depth. Thanks for a glimpse into your heart. And, well, may be you should print this, frame it, and find a fine suitable and appropriate space upon one of your many walls …

Just read your tete-a-tete with DC in his post about “friends”, and enjoyed it very much. 🙂

Did you? I’m glad you enjoyed our banter. He and I have been friends here on WP since the beginning of my blog. He has a good heart, a great sense of humor and we enjoy giving each other a rough time. 🙂 He keeps me honest. It was good to have a post from him again. Some of his posts from April and May have some funny moments between he and I. He has great comedic timing and it’s easy to make him laugh. I’ve been fortunate to have you guys around.

Yes, he and me seem to appreciate our respective sense of humour, and we exchange our load of smileys from time to time. 🙂
It’s great to have some minds on WP like his and yours. Sincerely so.

I’m making a note of your sense of humor now. Your voice in my head is always one of stern philosophy and wisdom. The window just shattered. Truth revealed. 🙂

Ha! No philosophy, no wisdom, no sternness without humour! THAT’s the name of the game; and I know that you know … 😀
And as so far as DC is concerned: I really, really hope he’ll see that one coming … 😀

Yes, sadness is a gift. It’s a message, too. It has things to teach us.

Hey there, Eric. You’re very wise. Sadness, no matter how horrific the measure, does provide a gift. I just hope to reach those who can’t seem to see it. Which is a silly quest since it is a short little poem, written by a woman who doesn’t claim to know much. I just want someone to find some peace after reading it. Thanks for your comment. You’re pretty great.

Not sure about wise or great, but I sure am pretty. Well, not that, either!
That being said, it’s not a silly quest at all. The greatest mission we can have is to be ministers of peace u sing whatever gifts we have.
